Spodek in Katowice
Spodek is one of the most recognisable venues in Katowice and an important part of the cultural life of the Silesian region. Over the years, it has hosted concerts, sporting events, exhibitions, trade fairs, conferences and meetings. Its distinctive architecture makes it stand out among venues across Poland.
About the venue
Spodek was completed in 1971. It was originally known as the Provincial Sports and Entertainment Hall in Katowice. Its distinctive shape, resembling a flying saucer, has become one of the city's defining symbols.
The complex was designed to accommodate a wide range of events. The main arena hosts concerts and sporting competitions, while other spaces can be used for exhibitions, trade fairs, training sessions and business meetings. The complex also includes a gymnasium, an ice rink and an indoor swimming pool with saunas.
Spodek has undergone several upgrades. In 2011, modernisation work worth approximately 70 million Polish złoty was carried out. The improvements included a modern LED screen, upgraded lighting, monitoring systems and fire safety equipment.
Depending on the event, the main arena can accommodate around 11,000 people. The actual capacity depends on factors such as stage placement and the layout of the venue.
