YOASOBI is a Japanese music duo formed by producer and composer Ayase and vocalist ikura. The duo was formed in 2019 and quickly gained popularity by combining J-pop, electronic music and modern pop. A distinctive part of YOASOBI’s work is creating songs based on stories and novels that are transformed into music.
The duo debuted with “Yoru ni Kakeru”, which became a major success in Japan. The song reached number one on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 and helped YOASOBI gain widespread recognition.
Another important moment in the duo’s career came with “Idol”, which was used as the opening theme for the anime Oshi no Ko. The song became hugely popular in Japan and internationally, becoming one of YOASOBI’s best-known tracks.
The duo’s music combines ikura’s distinctive vocals with Ayase’s productions, drawing on J-pop, synth-pop and electronic influences. This has helped YOASOBI develop a unique sound that appeals particularly to fans of Japanese music, anime and contemporary Japanese pop culture.
YOASOBI have also expanded their live performances beyond Japan. The duo has performed at events including Coachella and, in 2025, played concerts at London’s OVO Arena Wembley. Their international performances have introduced YOASOBI to an increasingly global audience.
